LUSH Milky Bath & Rose Jam Bubbleroon

It's the battle of the bubble baths!

Well, not really. I absolutely love both of these products and it would be impossible for me to choose a favourite, so it's more like a joint review. I even collected all of my bath product posts under one handy tab, so click here to see what I've been loving!

Festive Gingerbread Man Recipe with Icing!

I don't know what it was about this Christmas season, but I've had the urge to bake cookies.
My mother and I stopped off at Richtree for tree. I haven't had gingerbread cookies in ages, and the glass jar with iced gingerbread men immediately caught my attention. I suddenly had the urge to make my own cookies. I found this one on allrecipes (one of my favourite resources for recipes!) It is flavoured with orange rind which tastes lovely, and takes the edge off the spices.

I modified this recipe a bit because I like a bit of a spicier cookie and didn't have dark corn syrup... you can find the original recipe here.

The original recipe says it makes 60 servings - I used a medium size cookie cutter and it made about 30 medium cookies.

My Top 5 Foundations - 2015

Hello lovelies!

Finding the perfect foundation has always been a struggle for me. I tan quite easily, so my foundation shades keep changing. Over the past year alone, my skin type has changed from acne-prone, to oily, to combination, and now normal... So, I'm always on the look out for something that will work! I've included BB creams in my favourites.

The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Bath

Hello lovelies!

I don't know about you, but it's getting quite chilly here in Toronto. (Canada? Cold? You've gotta be kiddin' me!) I know right - who would've thought! The drop in temperatures gives me that extra excuse to cozy up in the evenings and bundle myself up. The stress of Christmas shopping, cold air, and hectic social schedules can really catch up on a girl! All the better to take a bath...right?

The Coziest Blush Sweater

The Coziest Blush Sweater

Hello lovelies! Finding the perfect knit sweater was the bane of my existence during the initial autumn months. A wander through Brandy Melville led me to a gorgeous and ultra-soft blush coloured sweater, only to be met with disappointment when the fit was completely wrong. I love Brandy Melville, but most of their clothes either don't fit or fit weirdly, all thanks to their one-fit sizing. This sweater was long enough for me, the arms were the right length, the body fit well... but the sleeves were too tight and the shoulders felt really weird.

I debated buying the sweater anyway because it was such a perfect colour, but later convinced myself that I wouldn't wear it if it didn't feel cosy and comfortable. A week later whilst walking through Forever 21, I found the one.

Father Christmas | Christmas Gift Guides

Hello lovelies!

I  think of all the people in my family, my dad is the hardest to shop for. He doesn't give any hints or clues to things that he might like for Christmas - he doesn't have many electronic devices, he's quite old fashioned, and he doesn't believe in extravagant Christmas gifts. I've developed a bit of a formula when shopping for him, and that's to find items that are practical and useful. Nothing too flashy or crazy, but things that are foolproof!

Here are some of my gift ideas for reliable and safe gift ideas if you dad is anything like mine!

  1. Black or Brown Side Snap Leather Gloves - Leather gloves are always a great gift during the winter time - they'll keep your hands toasty warm and stop the cold air from blowing through!
  2. Everything You Want iPhone 6/6+ Cases - One thing I've noticed is that guys never seem to carry much with them when going out! This handy phone case acts like a mini wallet and can store cards, cash, and anything else he'd normally carry.
  3. Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau de Toilette - A classic eau de toilette makes a fantastic gift - this one by Ralph Lauren is clean and inviting. It is described as a fresh blend of aquatic accords combined with spicy basil, verbena, and clary sage, softened with soothing notes of washed suede, velvety moss, and sheer musk.
  4. Extra Fine Merino Crew Neck Sweater - Merino wool is super soft and extra warm! This dark blue sweater is a lovely colour and will pair well with other clothing items.
  5. Great Minds - Darwin's Egg of Evolution - All dads love a bit of a challenge, don't they? This fun little puzzle makes a great desk decoration, as well as working out his brain!
  6. The Martian by Andy Weir - The Martian movie was a hit in theaters, and for good reason! The original book follows astronaut Mark Watney as he is abandoned after a Mars mission, presumed dead after a fierce storm. A must read!
  7. 7 Piece King of the Grill BBQ Set - For the dad that loves the grill. Not so much a wintery gift, but he'll sure appreciate it when grilling season comes around!
  8. 6-in-1 Tire Pressure Gauge Multi-Tool - A small and handy tool that would make a great stocking stuffer! There are six small tools in this keychain-like device, including a tire pressure gauge, tread depth gauge, LED flashlight, bottle opener, flat screwdriver, and key ring with quick release.
  9. Hudson's Bay Company Multi Stripe Wool Scarf - The worst thing in the wintertime is feeling the cold hair blow past your neck! This scarf is 100% wool and comes in a variety of colours!
Tune in tomorrow for the final day of giftmas week... budget buys and stocking stuffers!

My mom wants a pair of leather pants (for winter, she says, but I'm pretty sure she just wants to relive the 80s!) Here are a selection of ~motherly~ gifts. Keep your mom's taste in mind, but I don't think anyone can go wrong with comfortable PJs and some fine leather goods.

Gifts For The Guys | Christmas Gift Guide

On the fourth day of giftmas... it was all about the boys.

Hello lovelies! Admittedly, I've struggled to come up with gift ideas for the opposite sex. I'm not the only one - each year, my girlfriends and I will message each other on facebook with the inevitable "OMG WHAT DO I GET HIM FOR CHRISTMAS?" brainstorm session. I kind of based this on what I would get my boyfriend for Christmas...(If he's reading this then... your present isn't on this list so stop snooping!) Here are a selection of items which I feel would work well for boyfriends, brothers, or good male friends.

Gifts for boyfriends, brothers, or male friends.

  5. Fossil Chronograph Dean Watch - I think every guy should own a classy watch. They really help tidy up a look, even if he's more inclined to check his phone for the time.
  6. Hudson North Ribbed Mélange Knit Tuque
  7. Hammered Mule Mug Copper - A classy brass mug for cold beverages.
  8. Whisky Stones - Even if he doesn't drink alcohol, this set is fantastic for keeping drinks cool! Ice cubes dilute the drink when they melt, but these whisky cubes will keep your drink cold for long periods of time.
  9. Exploding Kittens - A super fun card game created by The Oatmeal. Described as a highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette. Players draw cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten, at which point they explode, they are dead, and they are out of the game. There's even a NSFW version if he's got a darker sense of humor!
If you have any other suggestions for gifts for the boys, do leave a comment down below! I'm sure everyone is looking for ideas. Come back tomorrow for day five of my Christmas gift guides... all about buying presents for mother dearest!

Gifts For The Girls | Christmas Gift Guide

On the second day of giftmas... it's all about the ladies in your life!

Hello lovelies! The other day, a friend asked me if I could give some suggestions as to what he should get his girlfriend for Christmas. So, I decided to throw together this feminine inspired gift guide for the ladies in your life, whether that be your girlfriend, wife, sister, or friend. I have also included some gift ideas for mothers, aunts, cousins, or anyone with more classic and elegant tastes.

Now, please remember to take these guides with a pinch of salt - not everyone's girlfriend, sister, or friend will have the same taste in gifts! This is a great time to lurk their pinterest or tumblr account and the things they're reposting. They've reposted it for a reason!  You know them best! But if you're absolutely stumped, here are some things that I'd consider as great gifts that I think are safe options...

The Girlfriend, Sister, or Lady in Your Life...

  1. Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette - Gorgeous set of eyeshadow colours, with mattes, shimmers, and everything to make her eyes look all sparky and pretty.
  2. QPAD QH-90 Headphones - Hands down my favourite headphone. Super comfortable, top audio quality, and a beautiful white colour. Great if she's a gamer or spends a lot of time at the computer.

On the First Day of Giftmas... | Christmas Gift Guide

On the first day of giftmas... It's all about me!

Hello lovelies! It's finally December! Have you started your gift shopping yet? I began perusing websites back during mid November... What can I say - that Christmas Spotify playlist really put me in the spending mood!

Over the past few years I've gained quite an interest in gift shopping. We never had the budget to splurge out on big gifts, meaning I always got books and socks and some clothes for Christmas. Now that I've been making a bit of money, I try to spend a bit more and get nice things for my parents and family. I love finding gifts that I know will put a smile on people's faces. I'm not really going to spend much on myself this year because I need to save up for school, so here's my list of extravagant things that I'll sit here and dream about.

  1. DX Racer Black Gaming Chair - I feel as though I am truly an adult now that I'm wishing for chairs instead of toys. Yes, a $500 chair that looks like a racing car seat. I was at the bf's house and his roommates had a chair like this and it was amazing. I actually just bought this cheapo one from Ikea which is okay, but who want's to pass up sitting in a giant race car chair?
  2. Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens - I have the "nifty fifty", but I love the blurriness that the 1.4 has! Great for outfit and blog photos.
  3. Canada Goose Kensington Parka - Following the theme of grown-up gifts, yes, a jacket. Canada Goose jackets are famous for being super warm - padded with duck down and lined with a fur ruff. Canadian winters are cold, okay? Might be a little tmi, but I have Reynaud's Phenomenon which means if my limbs get too cold, the blood vessels close up and my hands/feet go white. I really need to invest in a good winter coat since I've just been using a fall jacket with 2 sweaters underneath hahahaha. Maybe for my next big paycheck...
  4. Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette - Do I need more eyeshadows? No. But I the colours are just so preeeeetttyyyy.
  5. YSL Opium Eau de Toilette - I'm actually debating whether or not this is going to be my Christmas gift to myself this year. Opium is described to arouses the senses with an exotic blend of lush florals, rich spices, and deep wood notes.
  6. Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick - Went into Sephora the other day and tried it on... Such a beautiful pink colour! I don't wear pinks too often (usually orange toned or coral shades) but this one really worked on me!
  7. Black Milk Mermaid Chameleon Leggings - I've always wanted a pair of Black Milk Leggings - the patterns are so pretty! I also love the Galaxy ones.
  8. Razer Deathadder Chroma Mouse - I'm really becoming the Razer fangirl! One of Matt's roommates bought him the Deathadder Chroma for his birthday and I tried it out - such a quality mouse!
  9. K-On Mugi 5th Anniversary Figure - Waiiiifuuu! I love the K-On 5th anniversary sets, they're so cute! I already have Mio, just gotta get my other waifu :^)
  10. Ramsay's Best Menus - Over the past year, I've been working hard to improve my cooking skills! I've borrow a few of Ramsay's cook books from the library and I really like his style. Jamie Oliver does good ones as well!
  11. Roots Cabin Shaker Cardigan - Ok, I'm not really a Roots girl. For those who aren't aware, Roots is a huge Canadian brand! I saw this cardigan in store and it's super cozy!!
What's on your Christmas wishlist?

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post... A gift guide for all the ladies in your life!

Sachie

Redbubble Gift Guide + Giveaway!

Hiya lovelies!

I don't know about you, but I've already started my Christmas shopping. Yup, the day after Halloween marks the start of 2 months of Christmas in my calendars! I can't help it, everything about the season makes me feel happy - might have to do with the release of the Starbucks holiday drinks? Shhhh....

Anyway, one of my favourite parts of the holiday season is shopping for presents! It's true what they say - when you get older, you start to find more joy in giving than receiving. (At least... that's the case for me!) Don't get my wrong - I do love a good present or two, but I love seeing the looks on people's faces when they get open the presents I've given them.

Korres Wild Rose Brightening Set

Ah yes, Christmas season has begun! I'm always instantly drawn to the Beauty Boutique section of Shoppers Drug Mart as brands start to release their holiday gift sets! Korres has been great with releases this year, offering a few different sets with trial and full sized items.

I picked up this gift set earlier this week because I'm almost done my Wild Rose Advanced Sleeping Facial - a thick and luxurious night cream which restores and hydrates my skin overnight! I've been wanting to try the other items in the Wild Rose range but never went ahead due to the hefty price tag. I saw this kit for $50 in Shoppers and decided to go for it to test out these items! And luckily for me, the kit scanned for $40.99 at the checkout (which I kept quiet about because it must have been a pricing error, but $10 off, yay!)

This kit includes two full sized products - the Wild Rose Brightening 24-Hour Moisturiser and the Exfoliating Cleanser. I love the Wild Rose Scent! For those who are a bit more sensitive to scents, you might want to test it in stores first. My skin is sensitive but the fragrance does not cause breakouts.

The moisturizer comes in a solid glass jar with a thick white plastic lid. I originally wanted to compare the moisturiser to the sleeping facial cream to see if there was that much of a difference in consistency and overall result, and I must say, there is. I would have included pictures of the sleeping facial but I've basically run out so I'd just be showing you an empty jar, but the packaging is quite similar except it's white rather than red.

The Wild Rose Brightening 24-Hour Moisturiser is very lightweight and applies like a light lotion. It is quickly absorbed and has a dewy finish when worked into the skin, My skin feels moisturised and hydrated throughout the day, but the "24-hour" claim is a bit of a stretch. It has a powdery rose scent which lingers for a little bit after application before fading away.

By contrast, the Wild Rose Sleeping Facial is much thicker and has a more gel-like consistency. I only really use it before bed on days where I've been wearing a lot of makeup, or before I go out in very cold weather. It offers a huge hydration boost to the skin. I always notice that my skin has a drastic improvement in brightness and elasticity when I wake up in the mornings, which is nice!

If you're debating on which product to make the splurge on, I'd 100% say the sleeping facial. However, the moisturiser is good too! Especially for the set value.

Next - the exfoliating cleanser! This is a very creamy exfoliating cleanser with microbeads. The formula isn't packed with them - it is very gentle on the skin and works up to a creamy lather when water is added. I love how this feels on my face! It has the same powdery rose scent as the moisturiser. It exfoliates my skin without drying it out. I'll probably purchase the full size when I'm finished with this one!

Overall, I really like this set! Definitely pick it up if you're a fan of Korres products. This would also make a great gift for the friend or family member who likes rose scented products and is looking to invest more in their skincare regime!

Have you tried any Korres products? What are some essentials in your winter skincare regime?

Sachie

Review - Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

Hello lovelies!

I've never really worn hair extension. I was once told by a hairdresser that I had the "hair of five people", so naturally, you can see why I don't really want any more volume! I do wish my hair was longer though, so when Irresistible Me offered to send me some extensions to try out, I jumped at the chance!

I figured these would be great if I ever wanted to do a cosplay with longer hair and didn't want to wear a wig! I purposely chose the hair length to be longer because I can't see myself wearing them out in public as I already have so much hair haha!

The extensions I received were the Silky Touch extensions in #2 Chocolate brown in 22 inches. They come sealed in a foil and plastic bag - the large section has the main clip in pieces, and the smaller section contains single strips that can be used around the front of the face, or anywhere else that requires more fullness.

Before

My hair is just past my collarbone at this point - I'm hoping to grow it out a bit more but I'll likely get it trimmed for summer. I don't have too many laters at the moment. I'm wearing red contacts because I just filmed a video which will be up later this week :D

After

Ok, going to state right off the bat that it's super obvious I'm wearing extensions. I purposely chose a length that was longer so I could use them for cosplay purposes - if you want a more natural look, I'd say go with a length that is closer to your own! I also don't have layers at the moment, and I feel like that would really make the hair look more natural.

The color was a great match for my hair. It's hard to believe my hair used to be this long! The extensions are very easy to clip in.

When I try to mix the extensions in a bit more with my own hair, it doesn't look as bad! Haha.

Overall, these extensions are great! They're super soft and the clips are able to grip onto the hair without too much pulling.

Check them out at Irresistible Me!

How I Edit My Photos ft Corel PaintShop Pro X8

Hello lovelies!
I often get questions about how I edit my cosplay and blog photos...whether that be fashion, food, or product photos! Thanks to the partnership I have with Corel on this post, I am sharing tips on photo editing using PaintShop Pro X8!

PaintShop Pro X8 is basically a fast, easy, powerful, and affordable photo editing program with almost all the power of Photoshop at an affordable price! Adobe is the big name in the industry for creative editing programs and the one I'm most used to, but my dad favours Corel and subsequently gave me lessons on how to use the program haha! The roles have reversed... It's very easy to pick up though, and has a lot of creative options.

So, let's get started!

The basics:

I have a few different items in my photography/ video kit that I use. I am currently using the Canon T3i as my DSLR camera. I typically pair it with the 18-55 kit lens, and the 50mm f/1.8 portrait lens. I use my DSLR and a Nexxtech for video and fashion/outfit posts!

I have a set of Cowboy Studio lights which I use to light my videos and sometimes product photos if I don't have good indoor lighting.

For photos of makeup, food, and anytime out and about on the streets, I use my Canon G7X, which is a micro four-thirds camera! (Think of it as the lovechild between a standard point and shoot and DSLR)... Many of the DSLR capabilities in the body of a point and shoot! Very handy and easy to carry around.

Editing...

Although photos can still look great straight from the camera, editing makes quite a noticeable difference!

Here's an example from my Halloween outfit post... (You can see the full post here)

This is the raw photo from my camera... It looks okay, but there's a lot that can be done to improve it!

The same photo, with increased brightness and contrast, tweaked levels and curves, and a boost in saturation!

Makes a bit of a difference, doesn't it?

Now, I'll be showing you how I edit photos using Corel PaintShop Pro X8! The program itself is very similar to Photoshop except with more accessible creative options! One of my favourite features is the instant effects! It's kind of like preset Photoshop actions.

There are lots to choose from! The one applied on the top photo was called Fade Correct Small, which added subtle blur and focusing and changed the colour balance to be more blue/cyan. This is typically how I edit my photos anyway, so it's convenient to be able to do it in one click!

Another example for an upcoming post, which I edited entirely with Corel Paint Shop Pro! It's a recipe post.... Here's one of the unedited photos...

Now, let's work on this photo! Like my other photos, I'm going to increase the contrast, up some of levels, and work with the curves.

Looking much better, right? PaintShop Pro also has a one-step photo fix, or a smart photo fix which can put the unedited photos beside the work area so you can see your edits instantaneously!

There are lots of other features which make it a great alternative to Photoshop! Definitely a blogger friendly program, and much cheaper than Photoshop! I don't know about you, but I'm super impatient and I'd rather take photos than sit down and edit for hours... I want my photos to look good, but I hate editing! Paintshop X8 is a great solution!

Here's another examples of the things you can do...

Looks cool, right? Luckily for you, Corel is offering up to 30% off the price of Corel Paintshop Pro X8! And check this out --  Here's a campaign coupon for $20 off the purchase or upgrade of PaintShop Pro X8 (Pro & Ultimate)! Just use the code 2930 Click here to find out more...

Have fun! Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think!

Bioderma - Anti-Redness and Sensitive Skin Holiday Kit

Hello lovelies!

I've been on a huge skincare kick these past few weeks. After discovering the Bioderma skin care trial kits, I've been addicted to the brand! I've used Bioderma in the past (bought two bottles of their micellar cleansing water in France), but have only recently expanded to their collections in Shoppers Drug Mart. Fortunately for me, SDM carry a huge array of Bioderma products!

I've always struggled with redness and rosacea on my face. Whilst browsing the aisles in Eaton Centre's Beauty Boutique, I noticed that Bioderma had released a holiday trial kit for sensitive skin and redness! I had previously wanted to try the anti-redness cream but decided against it because of the price tag. I had the $5 off coupon from the previous trial kits, and a $10 credit from my optimum points! The holiday hit only cost me $18 in the end, which I considered to be a very good deal!

The kit includes a mini Sensibo micellar water (I swear I have like 6 of these now lol), a full size anti-redness moisturizer, a full size anti-puffiness eye cream, and a moisturizing balm cream.

It also includes a $5 coupon for the Atoderm PP Balm... Although, I haven't really figured out what the balm is for. It doesn't feel like a thick balm, it's more like a lotion? I'll keep testing it out and get back to you later!

The star of the show - the anti-redness care moisturizer! It's an ultra-gentle moisturizer which is supposed to minimize the look of redness and soothe irritated skin. I didn't really notice any instant effects, but I'll continue using it over the next little while. It does make for a very good makeup primer though! It has a gel/cream consistency that isn't oily and absorbs quickly into the skin.

Next up, the eye contour gel. I really like this moisturizer - I've never really used specialty eye creams - I usually just pat extra night time moisturizer under my eyes to supplement. This gel absorbs quickly and feels very soothing on the undereye area!

It also includes a tiny sample of this Bioderma ultra-nourishing balm. I expected it to be more like a lip balm / vaseline type of lotion but its more like a gel consistency.

Have you tried any Bioderma products? I'm excited to see if they do reduce redness on my skin over the upcoming weeks, especially since the air is getting colder and dryer...

OOTD - Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Do you have any plans for Halloween? I'll be at home eating candy and watching Friends (like every other night, hahaha). No Halloween plans for me! My friends all quite far now, or they're at school. Such is the life a new graduate...

I'll be sitting here playing the TF2 Halloween event! I've been getting back into the game after taking a break for about a year. I forgot how fun it was!

Avalai For Her - Monthly Subscription Box

Hello lovelies!

Today's post is for the ladies! We all know about (and dread)... shark week. (Not the discovery channel one.) It's an unpleasant experience that most ladies have got to go through. Fortunately, there's Avalai For Her! Avalai For Her is a monthly subscription box to help us get through that week. Imagine you never had to go to your local drug store to pick up tampons or pads late at night or in the middle of your workday!  Imagine you could get a box delivered on a monthly basis that included not only your essentials but also spa products to help you get through that time of the month.

I recent received a box courtesy of Avalai to try out (at a pretty convenient time too). And lemme tell you, there's some good stuff in there. You can custom select your box based on the length of your period, the flow, the type of essentials you would like to receive and when you would like to receive them.  Boxes start at $19.99 a month.

Let's take a look inside!

WOOO period essentials! My Avalai box was packed with all the way to the top with lots of goodies. Inside, you'll find an assortment of sweets, snacks, teas, and lady products!

First, let's take a look at the snacky bits! There were two mini backs of chocolate - one from Lindor (yesss), and Godiva (double yess!!!!) Chocolate is a definite essential. Next, a bag of pretzel sticks, a few packets of tea, and a bar of maple syrup scented soap! I can definitely say that my cravings for sweets goes through the roof so it's nice to know that I now have some at arms length. (I may or may not be eating the pretzel sticks right now...)

And THIS. Ok, after doing the beanboozled challenge a few weeks ago with mle [watch the video here], I've been a bit traumatized by jelly beans. I have now been shocked into associating vomit with orange flavoured jelly bellies... But these... cocktail flavoured jelly beans? That's more like it!

You also receive a pack of pads and tampons. You can choose your preferred brand, how heavy your flow is, and whether you prefer pads, tampons, or both! It's handy to have an assortment of sizes and lengths on hand because you're know for sure you're going to use them all, haha...

One of my favourite elements of the bag is the pink and white striped pad pouch. You can tuck everything inside to hold your pads/ tampons. It can be a bit embarrassing to try to slip a pad or tampon out of your purse/bag if you need to pop to the toilet - It's one of those uncomfortable things that we shouldn't be ashamed about, but it can't be helped. With this cute case, nobody is going to bat and eye, and all if your lady items are in one place.

Overall, I really enjoyed this box! It includes a nice assortment of items, and it's something that you can look forward to every month. :)

You can check out Avalai For Her on their website.
Also - if you order between now and November 8th, 2015, you can receive 20% off your first order with the code "JUSTFORYOU"!!
