What's in my makeup bag; November

hiyaaa lovelieeesssss

People often ask me on instagram/tumblr about what makeup products I'm currently using! Whenever I find a look that I like, I wear it nonstop for maybe a month or so! I recently threw out at least a quarter of my makeup because it was old. almost finished, or never used. No point in letting makeup sit there if it's just going to fester bacteria! D:

I've really been looking after my skin recently, so I've invested some well known brands! I definitely recommend all of these if you want to shell out a few extra dollars. Here are a few products that I've been loving recently.

My little quilted makeup bag! Same one that I used in my last "what's in my makeup bag" post. Now that I look back at that post, it was almost exactly one year ago!

Day Trippin' Downtown

Hello lovelies!

This past weekend, my mom and I went downtown for a little day trip! I'm always downtown these days because I get bored of living in the burbs and downtown is only a subway trip away. She hasn't been down there for a while so it was nice to spend time on her in between final projects and work.

Starting the trip by getting off at Spadina station, took the street car to Chinatown just by Kensington market.

Stopped off at the Hong Kong Island bakery for some bunz. It was around lunch time so we stopped off for a quick snack.

[review] Ipsy - November 2014

Hello lovelies!

I'm back on the beauty subscription train! I used to have an ipsy subscription back when it was MyGlam but then cancelled it after the products got boring. I can't remember what was being offered, but something a few months ago caught my eye and I reactivated my subscription! It's been worth it because every month I've received something awesome! :D

I'll try doing monthly reviews of these bags again to get back into frequent posting so I hope you guys are looking forward to more beauty posts!

This month's theme was "Girl Meets Glitter", although I didn't really receive any glittery products lol! The eyeliner is kinda metallic? If anything the makeup bag is glittery, but I don't really use the makeup bags anyway....

Anyway, here's what I received this month! I really like this month's bag because I've used everything so far! :D

 The items I received:

Marc Anthony Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray
IT Cosmetics - Bye Bye Under Eye in Medium Neutral
SeaRx Skincare Lotion
J.Cat Wonder Lip Paint in Mad Splatter
Gem Eye Pencil in Ultra Olive

[review] GEO Puffy 3-Tone Green / Peroxi Clear Solution

Heya lovelies!

Here's a review for you guys! I recently went and tossed out over half of my circle lens collection because they were approaching their expiry dates! I usually keep lenses for 6-8 months before replacing them. I have a few pairs that I wear quite regularly because I like how they look and wear them often in videos.

The GEO Shinny (now known as Puffy 3-Tone) are my favourite style of circle lenses. I've tried out the pink, blue, and grey colours and I love how they look! (I've gone through 3 pairs of pink, and one of grey / blue). I had to throw out my recent pair of pink and my grey ones were tearing at the side so I decided to try out a new colour! I'll be cosplaying Sailor Jupiter and Noire from Fire Emblem soon so that means...green eyes! I hardly ever wear green lenses because I didn't think it suited me, but I really like how these look on me! :0

I bought these from LoveShoppingholics ($23.90 USD)! I've checked on a few sites and most major ones (Candylens, PinkyParadise) sell them. They all generally go for the same price.

My lenses were packaged in a bubblewrap mailer. Everything came contained in a cute plastic bag. This included: pouch with lenses/lens case, a thank you letter, and two freebies! Hair velcros (great for holding bangs/hair out of face while doing makeup), and a collagen eye mask.

Lens bottles and a cute hippo lens case! These lenses are cute, but over years of using them I've found that they tend to loosen up and leak quite easily. If you go to a lot of cons/travel with lenses often, I'd recommend to invest in a different case that closes tightly! I tried out a cool new type of lens case which I'll review later in this post! :D

I wear plano which are just the clear 0.00 degree lenses!

Here's what the lenses look like! These lenses are on the larger side. They are 15mm lenses, and feature 3 different tones - a dark outer green ring, a jade green middle, and a light green/yellow centre.
This is how the lenses appear on my eyes, which are a medium-light brown. The lenses do a great job of covering up your natural eye colour! I also like how the outer ring isn't a solid black, so they look natural but allow you to achieve superkawaii massive shoujo manga eyes at the same time! :D

Here's a comparison shot!! The first picture shows one lens in and one without - as you can see, they are very enlarging! They are also quite bright as these were shot in regular indoor lighting,

Here's what the lenses are like with makeup on! Should have tightlined....orz!! I'm thinking of making another eye makeup tutorial because my last one seemed quite popular! Check out my last tutorial for eyebrows + eye enlarging makeup!

All in all, I love these lenses! I'll probably be ordering the brown and violet ones soon. :D I'll do another review soon!

I also ran out of lens solution, so I stopped off at Loblaws I mean Great Canadian Superstore and was going to pick up the usual Bausch+Lomb ReNu lens solution...but this one was on sale! Hooray for introductory offers! I love trying out new products so I figured why not. (It was also like $10 cheaper than the ReNu kit so my wallet won out haha!!)

So this new lens solution claims to be a new revolutionary type of lens cleaning solution + disinfectant that will fully clean your lenses in 4 hours. The solution foams up and apparently the bubbles are supposed to help to fully eliminate germs. Sounds promising! It also came with this weird basket type contact case which I've never seen before?

Basically you unscrew the "basket" and full the container up to a line with lens solution. You open the basket compartment and put the lens inside and close the lids. Then you reinsert it into the container. In order to take the lenses out, you take out the basket and the lens will stick to the top of the lid for easier removal! :D I really like this because it saves having to claw around for the lens (getting dirt in the solution, potentially tearing lens, dropping lens etc.) I'm thinking of buying more of these and replacing all of my cases haha.

Would you like to see more reviews of lenses or certain products? Let me know! :D

changing of the seasons

Heya lovelies! It's been a while!

Really liked my outfit today and decided that I needed to get my butt in gear and take a few outfit photos! I've really been into fashion blogs/youtubers recently, and I've been working on my sense of style! I think it has really improved these past few months haha.

The Bay had a Cyber Monday flash sale on their website which included topshop, so I jumped on it super quick and picked up a few things! I got 2 pairs of jeans and a new pair of shoes, all -40% off their original price! Super lucky for me haha. My wardrobe is slowly transitioning to majority Topshop......which I'm totally fine with. They make 36" length jeans which fit me perfectly! I can get away with 34" if they're low rise but it's nice to finally find high rise ones that fit.

room tour 2014

Heyo lovelies!!

It's that time of year again! Time to start school / move into student housing for the year, yay. This year I'm renting off campus, just like I did in second year. Of course, I have to do a bedroom tour. I love looking back on these types of posts!

First year bedroom
Second year bedroom
Third year (kinda?) Not rly much of a tour tho

And now for my fourth year!!

I'm sharing this place with 2 other people! One of my flatmates is a friend from high school who I lived with in second year. The other person is a graduate student from India! Unfortunately, I'm in a basement unit. I don't mind it too much, didn't really have much choice because I was in the UK when renting season was going on. I had to send my flatmate from second year to look at houses to rent!!

Here's the view from the door! I kinda wish we had bigger windows haha... I was spoiled with massive windows + second floor room in second year, too bad we couldn't rent that house again! :(
The random blinds on the side aren't for the windows, they actually hide a fuse box haha... At least it doesn't look too bad!

lil makeup haul

Hiiiiii lovelies,

I'm going to straight up admit that I have a makeup addiction. (I blame Boots/Superdrug on my exchange with all of their 3 for 2 sales even though makeup was like double the price lol.) A small beauty outlet near my house was going out of business. I happened to pass by one day while I was thrifting and picked up a few things for super cheap!

Bought these 3 things for about $10!! Pretty good considering it would normally cost maybe $25 in total at Walmart or something.

I can usually find a way to justify buying new makeup. Needed new mascara because my current one (mini Benefit They're Real' sample that I got with a magazine or something) is running out. Wanted to try the Baby Skin primer but didn't want to pay the $10 for it because I have a mini Benefit Porefessional sample (also from a magazine, do you see my problem) that I'm still getting through. I can always justify a shimmery champagne eyeshadow because it's what I wear every day.

I really like this eyeshadow pot! I've never tried any of Maybelline's Colour Tattoo line but I've heard some pretty good things about it! I got this eyeshadow pot in the colour 55 Barely Brazen, It's a super shimmery nude/champagne colour. I usually wear it to set my Bourjois Shimmer Shine cream eyeshadow in beige metallique. Very pigmented, I like it.

As I said before, I picked this up solely because it was on sale ($4 as opposed to $10). It's a clear primer that aims to hide/minimize pores and grant the look of soft baby skin. I haven't used this on my entire face yet, just on my cheeks and on the sides/around my nose. I don't really know if it's helping my makeup stay on properly but I guess I'll test it out some more.

I swear, this mascara is super hyped up. I watch a ton of beauty gurus on youtube and all of them (especially my favourite, Ingrid/MissGlamorazzi) swears by it. When I saw this on sale, I figured there must be some proof behind the hype!!

Kinda disapointed when I saw the brush. I was kinda expecting something with longer bristles at least? I guess in my mind, I was expecting it to be like the Benefit They're Real mascara. I got the waterproof formula which I never really buy since it's such a hastle to take off!

I'm not sure if it's because I have straight asian eyelashes or if the formula is too wet, but it doesn't work as well on me as it does on others I guess. Didn't really hold curl, made my lashes a little longer but nothing amazing. Oh well, just gonna use this up and then go back to Benefit or L'Oreal!

Glad I didn't end up spending a ton of money on this - this haul is an alright sacrifice for $10. At least the eyeshadow is nice!

Have you tried any of these? Do they work on you?
Any recommendations for other mascaras/primers would be appreciated as well!

The Works @ Hamilton

Hiya lovelies!

This past Sunday, I was in Hamilton for Con Bravo! A very last minute decision to check out the small convention. I've heard some pretty good reviews of it, so a few friends and I drove down to hang out! Didn't cosplay though.

Since there wasn't much to do at the convention (everything was being packed away since it was the last day of the con), we decided to wander around. Went out to grab lunch at Jackson Square. Decided to check out The Works - a gourmet burger join that had some great reviews!

The Works is located right across the street from the Hamilton Convention Centre.

the summer swatches

Hiya lovelies!!

Now that I've returned from England / finished making cosplay / Anime Expo in LA, I finally have time to sit down and blog! I've returned back to my boring everyday life...sitting at home, drawing, working the part time summer job in retail...zzzzzz

Over the past year, my nail polish collection has exploded. My addiction got even worse when I went to England for the school year and had access to Barry M!! (Best nail brand ahh) Here are some of the colours that I've been wearing non-stop~ Pretty colours for summer!

Barry M nail paint in Arabian, Barry M Gelly nail paints in Dragon Fruit and Guava, Rimmel 60 Second nail polish in Rose Libertine, and Seche Vite clear top coat (not picture because it's clear~)

I've been wearing these colours all through late spring and summer! Arabian is a really pretty blue/green duochrome polish. Dragon Fruit and Guava are Barry M's attempt at 'gel finishes', promising long lasting and glossy colour. Rose Libertine really is the perfect coral colour, a true mix of pink and orange! For some reason it photographed much darker, but the colour looks like how it appears in the bottle.

And of course, trusty old Seche Vite! I really can't use any other top coat. Seche Vite dries your nail polish very fast so you don't have to wait around for it to dry! Also protects from chipping, etc.

Which one is your favourite colour? :D

Syndra (League of Legends) Completed Cosplay

Hiya lovelies!!

Here are pictures of my "completed" Syndra cosplay. Completed in quotations because I didn't actually finish the skirt, I didn't have time so I just cut a few pieces of black fabric and tucked them into my shorts haha. Sssh don't tell anyone!!

Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)

I'll be completing them for the next con that I wear Syndra to! :)

Here are pictures of my completed cosplay! Starting off with the makeup and circle lenses. Armor and outfits can look cool, but you can't forget about your face!

All of my armor placed together!

Syndra (League of Legends) Helmet and Claw Progress

Hiya lovelies! This is part three of my Syndra cosplay tutorial. You may want to check out these posts first if you haven't already!

Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)

Helmet

Another part of Syndra's character design that proved to be quite challenging. The Syndra from MCM Expo made her helmet out of EVA foam! I hadn't even thought of that, and found her progress pics after I started making mine (haha too late!) Instead, I decided to use the expanding foam method.

This is one of the only parts of my armor that I am a little bit unsatisfied with, as I started this helmet two days before I was supposed to leave. So in result, it is a little bit messy. Still turned out alright though!!

I used a can of "Great Stuff" expanding foam for gaps and cracks. It's comes in a can with a small plastic spout.

Made the base shape out of cardboard! Then I covered it in expanding foam and let it cure (which the bottle says to leave for about 8 hours). It foams up when first applied but don't put on too much at first!

Syndra (League of Legends) Creating and Painting Body Armor

Hello lovelies! This is a continuation of my Syndra - League of Legends cosplay progress series. We are now on part two - creating the body armor and priming/painting the armor pieces!

Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)

Body Armor

I've seen a few different interpretations of Syndra's top, and most people seem to make it out of fabric. I chose to do an armored top because
1. I suck at sewing
2. I've made craft foam armor in the past so I have a bit more experience
3. Armor looks more badass!!

Belted the foam mat to my body and sketched out the basic design! Happy helped out, hahaha.

Syndra (League of Legends) Bracers and Shoulder Pauldrons

Hi lovelies!

It's been a while since I've done a proper cosplay post. I mostly save all my cosplay stuff for my Geek and Sundry vlog show but some of my viewers prefer written, photographic progress posts because they're easier to follow than videos.

Also apologies for the image quality, as most progress photos were taken with my iPhone.

I recently cosplayed Syndra from League of Legends. After cosplaying Bloodmoon Akali from League (which turned out horribly because I didn't have any materials or space to work on it, student halls etc.), I really wanted to make something big. I've been out of the North American cosplay scene for almost a year, so I wanted to come back with a bang! Syndra seemed like the perfect outfit - complex yet simple, cool design, and eye- catching. Plus she's really fun to play :D

This was how my cosplay turned out for Anime Expo. Not completely finished, but pretty good for working nonstop for 8 days!

dreamy summer days

Hiya lovelies, I'm finally back~ Back from England, back from LA, back from Anime Expo.

My dad got a couple of new lenses for his camera so I decided to try them out! I've always wanted to try doing more fashion posts, and I think fashion photos always look best when there's more of a blurry background. Tested out dad's 50mm 1.8!!

Really casual look, not sure if this even worth doing a style post haha.

Lisbon Adventures | Sachie Abroad

Lisboa, My Love

I'm in the final week of my exchange before I head back to Canada. I fly out on Monday, and I don't feel like I'm emotionally prepared to return. These past few months have flown by at a scary speed, it feels like I've been here for maybe 3 months max. So many things have happened.

I'll be talking about my exchange experience in a future post since many people have asked me questions! I'll also be doing a video over on my youtube page.

But anyway, this post will be about my recent trip to Portugal! I took a last minute trip with my friend Christa to Portugal on the 1-5 of June. We bought our plane tickets and booked our hostels the week before our trip. We flew with RyanAir. Tickets cost £64.99 from Manchester to Lisbon, and €54.99 from Faro to Leeds Bradford. A last minute trip to escape the grey skies of England and soak up some sun!

the gathering 2014

Hi lovelies!

If you've been following me on my other social networks, you'll have seen that over the past two weeks, I've been posting about The Gathering 2014 nonstop! In an effort to revive my blog,  here's my Gathering experience masterpost, haha!!

If you don't know what The Gathering is, check out my video on GeekandSundry Vlogs! :}

Basically, The Gathering is a huge LAN party held in Hamar, Norway. It's filmed in the giant viking ship olympic stadium (which is named the Vikingskipet because it looks like an overturned viking ship!) Thousands of people flood into the ship, bringing their computer supplies and shelf equipment for 4 days of nonstop gaming fun! It was my first LAN event, and it was even more exciting because The Gathering had invited myself, Scott, Amy, and our producer Jenni, to host live shows!

Also, apologies for the quality! Pics were shot on my iPhone.

Flew with Norwegian airlines from Gatwick in London. Norwegian is awesome, such a pleasant flight. They even had free wifi! Definitely helped the 2.5 hour flight go by very quickly. I'm super fortunate as this trip was my third trip down to Norway. (First time for planning meetings, second time to film promos for the event.) Ya can't keep my outta Norway!~ haha.

[tutorial] brows + enlarging eye makeup for cosplay

Heya lovelies!

I often get messages from viewers asking for me to make makeup tutorial videos... I'm not very good at them, and I always forget to add things or do proper voiceovers to make them nice like beauty guru tutorials!!

I love makeup though, so I thought I would start doing blog tutorials instead. I'm not perfect, but I've learned what works for me! I guess my style is influenced by gyaru makeup  since I used to read a ton of Popteen when I first started out with makeup. I use this style for most of my cosplays.

Feel free to save these images for references! Please keep in mind that this is how I usually do my makeup for cosplay, suited to my eye shape. It takes a bit of practice to adapt the tutorial to suit your own eye shape!

4.5.14

skin saviours

Hey lovelies!

Many girls out there are lucky enough to have great skin, and unfortunately, I am not one of them. I've struggled with my skin since I was in my early teens. When I turned 13, I was plagued with acne that stayed with me until just about last year. I have combination skin. In my early to mid teens, I had pimples everywhere. My acne was often concentrated on my forehead, little bumps on my nose, just under my eyes, on my chin.  In videos that I posted back in 2012, people still make comments on my skin saying that it's terrible and how I have too much acne. Whenever it was exam/project time, whenever it was "that time of the month", whenever I felt anxious, bam! Face full o' acne.

But Sacchan, that's gross! Why are you tell us this?

Well, ~for the first time in forever~, I have (relatively) clear skin. It makes me really happy, as my poor skin caused a lot of body image and confidence issues!! I know many people who follow me are in their teens and are dealing with some skin issues at the moment, so I wanted to offer my routine. I think it really helped clear up my face! If you're looking for new products or routines to try out, hopefully this will be of help.

zazzle shirts shirts shirts

heya lovelies~

A little while ago, I was contacted by Zazzle.com about reviewing some of their products! I was given a store credit and picked a few items! I had previously heard of Zazzle because a friend had bought some shirts from there, so being able to get a few items for myself was pretty cool! :D Zazzle offers lots of different items, like phone cases, shirts, and housewares. Most of their items are customizable, or you can choose from a large array of premade designs!

Of course, the first thing that I looked for was the (heavy breathing) car shirt! :D I saw someone wearing a shirt like this in a youtube video, and had to have my own!

23.2.14

first trip to norway!

Heyo!

The past two months have been a nightmare for computer troubles... The new laptop that is currently on the way is stuck in customs, so I ended up renting a laptop from the university IT services. What a mistake, this thing is super slow and weighs a ton... so old school! I can't wait until my new baby arrives so I can actually edit videos/photos/play games and move on with my life!

Anyway, a lot has happened over the past while! I went to Norway!! :D

The purpose of my trip wasn't for vacation though. I'm actually going to be attending The Gathering this year, which is a huge LAN party/ creative convention! Basically it's going to be super fun, with lots of gamers, panels, concerts and shows! I'll be working with the media team to host a cosplay competition and possibly do interviews/behind the scenes vlogs! I flew down there for their initial planning meeting, and to offer some input about event/panel organization!

On Feb 1st, I took the bus down to London. Met up with a youtuber who I used to watch quite often, Evan Edinger! Went out for lunch before my flight! He's a pretty cool dude, kept teasing me about my Canadian accent tho... it's not even that thick! :( Took the tube down to Heathrow and flew to Oslo. Short flight, only about two and a half hours!

Met up with one of the organizers, Kasper, at the airport! His flight from Copenhagen was delayed though due to issues involving the transportation of a coffin...? He took the express train down to Oslo city centre to meet up with two of the other event organizers - Guro and Martin!

[review] stila positively pink set

Hello lovelies!

A few weeks ago, I ordered Stila's Positively Pink set! It was a charity set for breast cancer awareness! It comes with a blush and a lip glaze! It was on sale for £3.50 (or something around that, can't remember the exact price) on the Stila.co.uk website with free shipping! With a steal like that (especially for Stila), I couldn't resist!

Positively Pink Cheek Palette
A slightly peachy, pink blush with an embossed breast cancer ribbon design. There are two ribbons that have a slightly pink, champagne spray over which adds a little shimmer to the blush colour!

Lip Glaze in Splendor
I've never really tried Stila's lip glazes before so I didn't really know what to expect. The gloss is super sticky, but it sticks to your lips and doesn't move. I like that kind of feeling on a gloss! It is  light pink and very shimmery, very cute! It would probably look nicer over a lipstick or stain to add a lovely shimmer over a rosiser shade!

I'm glad I managed to snag this set! A higher end brand set for less than most individual drug store makeup products! Sometime it pays off to follow hundreds of beauty blogs ;-)

I'll be doing a make up tutorial with these products soon, stay tuned!
